What is Mabon?

or if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, Ostara Blessings!

Mabon is the Autumn Equinox, a time of equilibrium. Day and night are equal and we start moving away from more light and into the darkness. Mabon usually occurs on or around September 22nd, when the sun reaches 0 degrees of Libra.

While the Spring Equinox manifests the equilibrium before action, the Autumn Equinox represents the relaxation that comes after action. The abundance we’ve created for ourselves throughout the summer is coming to an end. Now is the time to check in on your goals and see how far you have come. A time to take satisfaction in the work of the Summer and reap its benefits.

Mabon is a good time to cast spells of balance and harmony; and is also a time of change. Protection, wealth, and prosperity spells are appropriate as well.

The two Equinoxes are times of equilibrium. Day and night are equal and the tide of the year flows steadily. Mabon marks the 2nd harvest, and the balance of both light and dark and male and female. It also acknowledges the waning power of the sun; and the coming, once again, of the darkness.

Mabon marks the last spoke in the Wheel of the Year. From this day until the Winter Solstice, the Sun King's  path arcs downward to the earth.

We celebrate the abundance of the Earth, and we make wine and/or jam from any excess fruit. That way, we can preserve the richness of the fruits of the Earth to give us joy throughout the year.
